Portraits for a Purpose

The Portraits of Family House project is a series of portraits of the courageous people involved with Family House. This non profit organization provides free housing for the families of children being treated at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital. Over the next two years, fine art portrait painter Seamus Berkeley will create 24 oil portraits of the people connected to Family House: the families, children, care givers, organizers, and health care professionals. The portraits will create a visual legacy of the faces and spirit of the people who transform Family House into a family’s temporary home. Berkeley will gift the final collection of portraits to Family House that will benefit their mission and enhance the walls of the new Family House home.

Family House

Founded in 1981, Family House is a 501(c)(3) non profit organization providing temporary housing to families of seriously ill children receiving treatment at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) Benioff Children’s Hospital. Family House operates two residential buildings with a total of 34 rooms located in the vicinity of the hospital. UCSF is currently building a new Benioff Children’s Hospital at the Mission Bay facility in south Mission Bay, San Francisco, and Family House is planning to parallel the hospital’s expansion by constructing an additional 80 room residence adjacent to the new hospital.

The Artist

Seamus Berkeley has painted hundreds of people, from life, while living in Taos, New Mexico where he founded the Taos Society of Portrait Artists. Since moving to the Bay Area, he has continued to create commissioned portraits and other works while also offering art instruction. He is constantly looking to add people to his POFH team and art community!
